HyenaHyena 11.0 - Coming Soon

Hyena v11.0, scheduled to be released in a few months, will include several enhancements to the Microsoft Exchange integration components, including:

  • Support for Exchange 2010 mailbox retention policies, including incorporating retention policies in mailbox templates.
  • Archival mailbox creation, removal, and properties display.
  • Exchange mailbox properties for distribution groups and mail contacts.

The biggest addition in Hyena v11.0, however, will be the added capability to modify Active Directory objects in mass by importing from a text file, including:

  • Creating new directory objects
  • Bulk updating of existing directory objects, including multi-valued attributes, user photos, account attributes, and more.
  • Optional automatic creation of home directories using current Hyena home directory templates.
  • Extensive error detection prior to updating
  • Logging capabilities
  • GUI task-based design for ease-of-use and repetitive task execution

With the scheduled release in a few months, now is an excellent time to verify your organization's license maintenance expiration dates to ensure that this major upgrade can be installed for free. See the Hyena Maintenance section below for information on how to check your license maintenance expiration date.

Hyena 10.5 'E' available

We've made what will probably be the final revision to Hyena v10.5, in order to address some specific (and rare) issues, including:

  • Correcting removal of leading character when displaying some Exchange mailbox database names.
  • Fixed errors when modifying the group member query while viewing the group's members.

For a complete list of changes in the Hyena 10.5 release, see our Whats New page.

The 10.5 rev 'E' update can be downloaded from Hyena's main download page.

MatrixNew "Group Member Matrix" Video

The 'Group Member Matrix' view, introduced in Hyena v10.5, is a new view that shows all group members of one or more groups in an easy to understand grid. The Matrix view was also optimized for exporting as well, with flexible settings and customizable member fields (ie user email address, employee ID, etc.).

For a better view of the Matrix along with a short video showing how to use it, see the Active Directory User and Group Management page.

.Tips

New Symbols in Hyena v10.5

Hyena v10.5 added several new symbols that can be added to any directory query.

To add a symbol to a query, select File > Manage Object View > AD Queries, select the query type to modify, and set the Attribute Category to 'Special AD Symbols'. For more information on managing Hyena's AD queries, see the help file topic 'Object Manager - AD Queries'.

%SYM_AD_FLAGS_DISABLED% - This symbol displays YES/NO if the user account is disabled.

%SYM_AD_FLAGS_NOEXPIRE% - Displays YES/NO if the user account password is set to 'never expire'.

%SYM_AD_FLAGS_LOCKOUT% - Displays YES/NO indicating if the account is locked out.

%SYM_AD_FLAGS_SMARTCARD% - Displays YES/NO indicating the account is set to require a smartcard for interactive logon.

Using the Canonical Name Attribute

While not a symbol, another directory attribute that is available in the 'General Directory Object Attributes' category is very useful: CanonicalName. The 'CanonicalName' directory attribute displays the directory objects' canonical name which is more useful for sorting and searching. For example, if the LDAP path for a user is:

LDAP://CN=Typical_User,OU=Sales,DC=MyDomain,DC=com

...then the Canonical Name would be:

MyDomain.com/Sales/Typical_User

Sorting a listing by the Canonical Name will produce a report with a more hierarchical structure than using the LDAP path.

.Hyena Maintenance

All Hyena licenses have a built-in maintenance expiration date, which can be displayed under the Tools > Settings > Licensing dialog. The maintenance expiration date determines whether new releases can be installed with the active license. If your maintenance has recently expired or is about to expire, it can be renewed now. For maintenance information and renewal options, visit:

http://www.systemtools.com/hyena/maint_main.htm

If you prefer to get an email quotation on maintenance renewal, send your current license information to sales@systemtools.com and request a maintenance renewal quote. You can easily get the current license information under Hyena's Tools > Settings > Licensing dialog.

If your maintenance expiration date is before December 1, 2013, the upgrade cost is only 50% of the licensing cost, which includes one year of maintenance. Maintenance expirations on or after December 1, 2013 can be renewed now.
